# What's new in Tunr 0.5

Released 2026-10-26. Version 0.5.0.

Tunr 0.5.0 rebuilds the mastering engine from the ground up: Tunr listens to your track first, tells you what it found, suggests a chain with a plain-language reason for every step, and lets you hear the result before you render. It finishes with a true-peak limiter and a report you can hand to anyone. Intel Macs get their own native installer, and Windows is on 0.5.0 too.

## Highlights

- **Measure, propose, preview.** Tunr measures first, shows its findings with the numbers, and explains why each step is in the chain.
- **Hear it before you commit.** The loudest 20 seconds render through your chain in about a second and play against the original.
- **A limiter that stays clean.** Lookahead, 4× oversampled detection and a ceiling you set, −1 dBTP by default.
- **A report for every master.** Before and after measurements, what each module did, and a check of the file you exported.
- **WAV, FLAC, AIFF, MP3, M4A.** Sample rate, bit depth, dither and metadata, ISRC included, all in one dialog.
- **Native on every desktop.** A separate installer for Intel Macs, and the Windows installer is 0.5.0 as well.

## It listens first, then explains

We audited 0.4.5 and found four problems in the way it processed sound: a limiter that changed gain in steps, a glue compressor that ignored its attack setting, a loudness stage that was really a gain boost into a soft clipper, and saturation that aliased on bright material. Instead of patching them one by one, we rebuilt the engine and wrote a test for each problem so it cannot come back.

- Drop a track and Tunr measures it: tonal balance, dynamics, loudness, true peak, stereo image, noise floor, clicks, hum, sibilance and clipping, each with its numbers. There are no quality scores or grades, just what it found.
- From those findings it proposes a chain of ten modules in a fixed order: gain, restoration, match EQ, parametric EQ, dynamic EQ, compressor, multiband, saturation, stereo and the limiter.
- Every module says in plain words why it is there. You can bypass it, tweak it, or reset it to the suggested value.
- Clean-up (de-noise, de-click, de-hum, de-ess) is only suggested when the analysis is confident there is something to fix. Width and balance changes are suggested but stay off until you switch them on.
- Give it a reference track and match EQ steers the tone toward that song's curve.
- It is quicker too: analysing a full-length track now takes a few seconds instead of about a minute.

## Hear it before you render

You no longer have to render a whole master to find out whether you like it.

- Tunr picks the loudest 20 seconds of your track, renders them through the current chain in about a second, and plays them A/B against the original.
- Drag the loop to any part of the song. Change a control and the preview updates.
- Curious how it will sound on a streaming service? The optional codec preview plays the segment through MP3 or AAC and shows the true peak after encoding, which often lands half a decibel to a decibel above the ceiling.

## A true-peak limiter that stays clean

The final stage now works the way a mastering limiter should: smoothly, with lookahead, and without crunching your transients.

- Lookahead, dual release and 4× oversampled peak detection. You choose the ceiling; it starts at −1 dBTP.
- Pick a loudness preset: Dynamic (−14 LUFS), Balanced (−11, the default), Dense (−9), Club (−7), Broadcast (−23), Podcast (−16), Spotify (−14), Spotify loud (−11) or Apple Music (−16).
- A platform table shows how much each streaming service will turn your master up or down, and a readout estimates how hard the limiter has to work before you render.
- Straight talk on very loud targets: Dense and Club can stop a little short when getting there would mean limiting more than 30 % of the track. The report tells you by how much, and adding the compressor or multiband stage usually closes the gap.

## A report you can hand over

Every master comes with a mastering report, so you, your label or your client can see exactly what happened.

- Before and after numbers: integrated loudness, loudness range, peak-to-loudness ratio, true peak and stereo correlation.
- A short summary of what each module did.
- A delivery check of the exported file itself, not just of the audio inside the app.
- Save it as a printable HTML page.

## Export the way you deliver

One export dialog covers the formats and details a release needs.

- WAV, FLAC, AIFF, MP3 or M4A.
- Choose sample rate and bit depth, and add title, artist, album, year and ISRC.
- 16-bit files get proper dither (TPDF or shaped).
- After sample-rate conversion Tunr checks the true peak again, so the file you deliver still respects your ceiling.

## Intel Macs and Windows

Tunr 0.5.0 comes as three installers, one for each kind of desktop it runs on.

- Apple Silicon Macs: Tunr.dmg. Intel Macs: the new Tunr-Intel.dmg, a native build of its own. Both are signed and notarised by Apple and need macOS 11 or later.
- They are two builds rather than one universal app because the number-crunching libraries behind the engine do not come as universal binaries.
- Not sure which Mac you have? Apple menu, then About This Mac: “Chip” means Apple Silicon, “Processor” means Intel.
- Windows: Tunr-setup.exe, now 0.5.0 like the Mac builds, for 64-bit Windows 10 or later. The installer is not signed yet, so if SmartScreen appears, click “More info” and then “Run anyway”.

## How to get 0.5

Already using Tunr? You do not need to download anything.

- Installed copies of 0.4.x update themselves through the in-app updater. On a Mac it picks the right build for your chip.
- Your licence key does not change and keeps working.
- New to Tunr? Grab the installer for your computer below or on the download page.

## Same deal as always

The new engine changes how Tunr sounds, not how it treats you.

- Free: three masters per machine without a key, and the licence key that lifts every limit is free too, sent by email. No card, no subscription.
- Offline: every bit of processing happens on your computer. Your audio never leaves it, and there is no account to create.
- Every update, this one included, is free for the life of your licence.
